Bug

After creating multiple ArcSDE database connections to ArcSDE services on Oracle, the second connection file does not provide access to the correct database. It connects to the original database, regardless of the port number specified.

Workaround

11/9/12 Added by Jeff C. One customer found the following workaround which has not been tested/approved by Esri: We have discovered a workaround for this bug, which will let us migrate to Desktop 10.1…The workaround requires us to create DNS aliases unique for each combination of a server name and database ie: SDE5153 - for server spu60, port 5153, database GISDSDE5154 - for server spu60, port 5154 database GISEEach one of them will point to the same server spu60. Next, while creating ArcSDE database connection, use this alias as a server name...This workaround still leaves us with some more work to be done, as it requires us to modify all our layerfiles plus any existing MXD’s, but this can be done programmatically and it is somehow manageable.*****
