Adding the port number to the Database server connection returns an error when attempting to create a new SQL Server Express geodatabase.

Workaround

Workaround 1:

1. Using a default port number (1433) .
2. Omit the port number when connecting to the Database server.

Workaround 2:

1. Use a non-default port number.
2. Omit the port number when connecting to the Database server.
3. Limited to creating new geodatabases from hosting database server only. (Remote connections require the use of port # when not using default (1433))
