A Web Map Tile Service (WMTS) published using the British National Grid does not display initially on loading the service as a basemap in ArcGIS Online. However, it loads correctly after navigating to home and accessing the Maps option again.

Workaround

Navigate to the Home menu and again click no the Map option to reaccess the map, the WMTS service will be loaded correctly.
