A geocode service published from an address locator that was created with the Gazetteer style generates invalid magic keys for addresses when running a Suggest request, if other locations in the locator contain the same address as well as a unit number with a number sign.

This is addressed in ArcGIS Desktop 10.5.

Workaround

Replace the # sign with text values, such as ‘Unit No.’ or use additional fields in the locator besides the Address field, such as a City field.
