A feature class with coded value domains shows the coded value instead of the description when running the Intersect geoprocessing tool.

Additional Information

The transfer of coded value domains was intended for when the output dataset is a kind of copy of the input dataset. When the output is a combination of multiple inputs or has geometries derived from some spatial processing, there is no support for transferring the complete geodatabase field properties to the output since the output is fundamentally different from the input. Intersect and most of the analysis tools fall into this category; the output is a mashup of many inputs with changed schema and geometry, thus supporting complete geodatabase field properties in the output is not possible without user interaction. Reestablishing the coded value domains for these types of tools is the responsibility of the user. Refer to the following geoprocessing documentation for additional information: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/tool-reference/appendices/geoprocessing-considerations-for-attribute-domains.htm

Workaround

  1. Right-click the intersect results and select Design > Fields.
  2. Reassign the domain in the field map.
  3. Click Save. The domain description appears.
