In IDLE, when two Join Field operations are performed on the same feature class or the Join Features tool is used twice, the process fails on the second attempt.

This issue is addressed in ArcGIS Pro 3.3.

Workaround

Run the script as a script tool in ArcGIS Pro to avoid this problem. The problem exists solely in IDLE.
