When running a ModelBuilder workflow from the Geoprocessing pane, the Apply Symbology From Layer tool does not update the layer symbology in the Contents pane.

Workaround

If the layers that need to be symbolized are not present in the Contents pane, running the ModelBuilder workflow from the Geoprocessing pane successfully updates the symbology and adds the layers to the map.
