When indexing, error message DesktopIndexingService.exe has stopped working; however, there is no ArcMap crash, and the index is built successfully.

Workaround

DesktopIndexingService.exe error should only occur on Win7 and Win2008. This is caused by a conflict with QuickTime. Uninstall QuickTime and the problem should go away. The older version of QuickTime should not be a problem - 7.6.2. However, 7.6.6 will cause the DesktopIndexingService.exe error.
