This is not a bug.
When working with 3D features, especially with no basemap or local scene, there can be a visual difference versus actual geometry selection; this even happens when using a 2D map considering the map zoom level, visual pixels, versus the actual distance. Sometimes it is perceived as selected because it looks so on the screen, but in fact, it is not. If the view angle is changed, then the mismatch between the drawn geometry and actual features is shown.
Also, in the example, the final point is clicked around the end of space vs. ground. This could generate problematic results as well.
In cases like this, selecting from a top-down (horizontal) view like a 2D perspective is the best way to ensure this kind of mismatch does not happen.
Workaround
Select the 3D features from a top-down (horizontal) view, like a 2D perspective.
