This limitation is not specific to the Portal for ArcGIS Log4j Patch as it occurs with any patch. Refer to the Workaround section for more details.

Workaround

  1. Move the conflicting .properties file (always installed into the user’s home directory) to a different location temporarily before running ./applypatch: mv ~/.ESRI.properties.`uname -n`.2021.1 /tmp.
  2. Run the apply patch script: ./applypatch.
  3. Move the .properties file back to its original location in the home directory: mv /tmp/.ESRI.properties.`uname -n`.2021.1 $HOME.
