Unable to georeferenced the TIFF file with LZW compression applied, as the image returned to the unknown location after closing the georeference edition session.

Workaround

Check the layer properties to see if the image has LZW compression. If it does, export the raster and be sure to select 'none' in the compression settings. After doing this, the control points are added, and the raster is successfully saved.
