Portal for ArcGIS 10.5 was the first release to support incremental backups. As part of support for incremental backups, walarchive logging is always enabled. The walarchive logs are generated under C:\arcgisportal\backups\walarchive and store all transactions to the database. Prior to running the DR tool for the first time, these logs are limited to 5 GB. Once the DR tool has been run, the logs have no limit and can grow unbounded, quickly filling up the hard drive. If the DR tool is run again to create a full backup, the transaction logs are deleted automatically. To maintain control over the growth of these logs, the recommended best practice is to run the DR tool on a regular schedule.
