The Export Features geoprocessing tool (when run in Python script) does not return any error message when the in_features path is different from the source feature path in the field_mapping parameter.

Workaround

Ensure the in_features path is equal to the source feature path in the field_mapping parameter, then the field mapping is honored and the output schema is adjusted correctly.
