The Calculate Field tool returns the error message "An edit operation is required" when it is used on a feature class from a file geodatabase that participates in a trace network and has a join to another table while automatic enablement of editing is in effect in ArcGIS Pro.

Workaround

1. In ArcGIS Pro, navigate to the Project tab.
2. Click Options.
3. In the Options window, under Application, click Editing.
4. Expand Session, enable Enable and disable editing from the Edit tab.
5. Start editing from the Edit tab before running the Calculate Field tool, or remove the join from the feature class if it is not necessary in the Calculate Field tool.
