The ArcGIS Enterprise portal returns "Error code 405" when attempting to disable 'read_only' mode via the ArcGIS API for Python, although this action succeeds through the ArcGIS Enterprise Portal Administrator Directory user interface.

This issue is fixed in the ArcGIS API for Python 2.4.2 release.

Workaround

Manually disable read-only mode using the Portal Administrator Directory:

  1. Log in to the ArcGIS Enterprise Portal Administrator Directory (URL format: https://<portal_machine_fqdn>:7443/arcgis/portaladmin).
  2. Navigate to Mode and Update.
  3. Set 'read_only' to False and submit the change.
