Story Map Series, Story Map Cascade and Story Map Journal in Configuration Mode loaded over an HTTP connection downgrades HTTPS only AGS Feature Services which results in the applications returning the 'FIX' button warning that the layer is inaccessible, even though the layer is loaded, visible and accessible within the application.

Esri is focusing the development effort on the current-generation ArcGIS StoryMaps product (https://www.esri.com/en-us/arcgis/products/arcgis-storymaps/overview) and has announced that its classic storytelling templates (https://storymaps-classic.arcgis.com) will gradually be moved to 'extended support' and then 'mature support' over the next few years (https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-storymaps/announcements/updated-classic-story-map-timeline/). For the definition of extended and mature support and the other lifecycle phases of Esri’s products, see Esri’s Product Lifecycle Support Policy (http://downloads2.esri.com/support/TechArticles/Product-Life-Cycle.pdf). ArcGIS StoryMaps is being developed with modern technology and design patterns and the benefit of years of feedback received from the storytelling community about Esri’s classic storytelling templates. Although there are issues and enhancements that will never be implemented in the classic templates themselves, many of these have already been incorporated into ArcGIS StoryMaps or are being considered for future updates to ArcGIS StoryMaps.

Workaround

Change the Organization to HTTPS Only.

OR

Change the URL of the Configure Application to HTTPS.

OR

Save the application and the error does not return if outside of the Configuration Mode in HTTP.
