Since January 2018, searching for an address using the ArcGIS Online World Geocoding Service zooms to the correct location, but the pop-up is labelled with the wrong city.

The city value is currently returned based on the preferred city for a postal code. This can happen in cases where the postal codes spans multiple cities but it is not very extensive. In the ArcGIS Online December 2019 release, when configuring a locator view for ArcGIS Online, you can set the default city name option to 'Local city name'.

Workaround

Below are two different workflows to work around the behavior.

Workflow 1

  1. Create a locator view from the ArcGIS World Geocoding Service in either ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise portal.
  2. In the settings, set the returned 'Preferred city name' value to 'Local city name'.
  3. Add the locator view to ArcGIS Pro or use it in the Map Viewer.

Workflow 2

  1. In ArcGIS Pro, create a locator view from the ArcGIS World Geocoding Service.
