Workaround

Workaround #1: If I make an ODBC connection to the database at the OS level, then use the "Microsoft OLEDB Provider for ODBC drivers" in the "Add OLEDB Connection" dialog in ArcCatalog, the selections work.Other workarounds:1. Convert the table to a different format, such as a dbf table or a PGDB table. 2. Export the events layer to a permanent feature class. (These workarounds do not always work well for users)
