Workaround

The current workaround is to use a mosaic dataset with the LAS dataset loaded into it. 1. In an existing or a newly created database, right-click and create a new mosaic dataset.2. Accept the defaults and fill out the required fields. 3. Right-click the new mosaic dataset in ArcCatalog and choose Add Rasters.4. Change the data type to LAS dataset, and click the Properties button next to the input type. 5. Define the desired cell size and interpolation method, and accept all other defaults.6. Right-click the mosaic dataset in ArcCatalog, and choose Enhance > Calculate Statistics. 7. Add the point shapefile to the map, and open the Add Surface Information tool.8. Set the inputs as the point layer and the mosaic image.9. The output z-values are correctly reflected on all points. The best way to find a recommended cell size is to determine the average point spacing. The easiest way is to use the 3D Sample Tools toolset. There is a tool within the included toolbox named LAS File Information. Running this tool provides a text summary of the average point spacing to help determine the cell size. 3D sample tools: https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=fe221371b77940749ff96e90f2de3d10
