Workaround

Export to a shapefile and back into ArcSDE or a file geodatabase. If field names must remain consistent follow the following procedure:1) Export the errant feature class to a shapefile and verify that the "Identify Route Locations" tool is working properly.2) In ArcCatalog, create a new feature class with the proper field names (schema) within the ArcSDE or file geodatabase.3) Use the Simple Data Loader tool in ArcCatalog to load the shapefile (Right-click --> Load -->Load Data) to load the shapefile to the geodatabase and map fields over to their proper field names.4) On the output ArcSDE feature class, create a new route layer using the Create Routes geoprocessing tool (Linear Referencing --> Create Routes). This will create a new output feature class with only a few columns in it.4) In order to create the feature class with all supplemental information as seen within the original feature class, use the "Join Field" (Data Management --> Joins --> Join Field) geoprocessing tool to add these fields again from the original table to this working route layer based upon the route identifier field.
