ArcMap 10.8 annotations do not display if the annotation feature class (polygon) has a query which includes Shape.Area with data coming from an SQL enterprise geodatabase.

ArcGIS Desktop (including ArcGIS Engine and ArcObjects) is in mature support and will be retired March 1, 2026. Do not use Shape.Area() in a query layer for annotation feature classes.
