Runtime error when opening .mxd files in ArcMap caused by the dllcmd32 process associated with EFAX faxing software

Error Message

When opening an .mxd file in ArcMap, the following error message may occur:

"this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way..."

Cause

The dllcmd32 process, a process running from EFAX faxing software, generates this error. The dllcmd32.exe is the main executable for the configurable EFAX faxing module that is installed with the HP Laserjet 3100/3150 Jetsuite software.

The program is a non-essential system process, but should not be terminated unless it is suspected to be causing problems. See: WinTask Process Library - dllcmd32 for more information.

Solution or Workaround

• Terminate the dllcmd32 process.
• Remove the EFAX faxing software.
