Last Published: April 25, 2020

Summary

Universal Naming Convention (UNC) allows a path to be identified without specifying a drive letter. For example:

\\ComputerName\Folders\Paths\file.doc

The instructions provided in this article demonstrate how to use UNC paths to share ArcCatalog folder connections with other machines on a network.

Procedure

  1. Add the Location toolbar to ArcCatalog by selecting View > Toolbars > Location.

    Note:
For ArcGIS 10.x, select Customize > Toolbars > Location.

  2. Type the full UNC path into the Location text box and press Enter.
