XY Event layer does not display or is not added to the TOC

Description

Adding an XY Event layer results in a layer that does not display or is not added to the table of contents (TOC).

Cause

Columns containing XY Event coordinates have space characters or hyphens in their names.

Workaround

• Add columns that do not have space characters or hyphen characters in their names, then copy the data into the new columns.
• Rename the columns to confirm they do not contain space characters or hyphen characters.
