Problem: Task menus are white in the Web Mapping Application when using Internet Explorer 8

Description

When displaying a Web Mapping Application in Internet Explorer 8, menus containing tasks will be entirely white and the tasks cannot be opened.

This issue applies to Web Mapping Applications built with ArcGIS Server Web ADF for the Microsoft .NET Framework.

Cause

This is a known issue with the ASP.NET menu control when it renders in Internet Explorer 8.

Solution or Workaround

This issue can be addressed by installing a hotfix from Microsoft.

Open the following article from the Microsoft Knowledge Base: KB962351 The pop-out menus are not displayed when you use Internet Explorer 8.0...
Navigate to the hotfix that matches the operating system of the Web server being used.
The prerequisite for the patch on Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 is Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2).
Download and install the hotfix.
