Import coded domains to an existing geodatabase

Summary

These steps are necessary to import domain values from a standalone Microsoft Access table into a geodatabase.

Procedure

Note:
Table2domainUI.dll is not supported by ESRI.
  1. Start ArcObjects Developers Help and get the Table2domain sample.
    1. Click Start > Programs > ArcGIS > ArcObjects Developers Help.
    2. Switch to the Contents Tab.
    3. Select Samples > Samples > Select GeoDatabase > Select Database Tools > Select the Table To Coded Value Domain tool.
      You can use this page as a point of reference to register the sample.
  2. Register the Table2domain Sample

    The instructions below include making changes to essential parts of your operating system. It is recommended that you backup your operating system and files, including the registry, before proceeding. Consult with a qualified computer systems professional, if necessary.
    
    Esri cannot guarantee results from incorrect modifications while following these instructions; therefore, use caution and proceed at your own risk.
    1. Open Windows Explorer.
    2. Navigate to ArcGIS > ARCEXE81 > Arcobjects Developers Kit > Utilities.
    3. Double-click Register_in_menu.reg.
    4. Navigate to ArcGIS > ArcEXE81 > Arcobjects Developers Kit > Samples > GeoDatabase > Database Tools > Convert Table to Domain.
    5. Right-click Table2domainUI.dll and select Register.
  3. Load the Table2domain Sample in ArcCatalog.
    1. Right-click the toolbar area of ArcCatalog.
    2. Select Customize.
    3. Select Add from File.
    4. Navigate to the location of Table2domainUI.dll:
      (<drive>//ArcGIS/ArcEXE81/ArcObjectsDeveloper Kit/ Samples/Geodatabase/DatabaseTools/Convert Table to Domain
    5. Add the Table2domainUI.dll file.
    6. Switch to the Commands Tab.
    7. Scroll to Developer Samples
    8. Select 'Convert to Domain.'
    9. Drag and drop it on a toolbar.
  4. Activate the Table2domain sample.
    For the script to work, a table must be loaded into the geodatabase.
    1. Select the Table in Geodatabase.
    2. Select the 'Convert to Domain' tool.
    3. Select the Coded field from the dropdown menu.
    4. Select the Description from the dropdown menu.
    5. Type in New Domain Name.
    6. Type in New Domain Description.
