Software timeout has been reached. Cannot run program.

Error Message

When launching ArcView 3.2a (patch) on Solaris machines, an error occurs:

"Software timeout has been reached. Cannot run program."

Cause

The original ArcView 3.2a patch for Solaris contains a timeout.

Solution or Workaround

1. Replace the ArcView 3.2a patch for Sun Solaris by downloading the updated patch from the ESRI downloads page.
   
   

      A. Click the "ESRI Patches and Service Packs" link in Related Information, below.
      B. Scroll to and click "ArcView 3.x".
      B. Locate the section headed "Version 3.2a".
      D. Click on "ArcView GIS 3.2a Patch". 
      C. Select the Download link labeled "ArcView GIS 3.2a Patch for Sun Solaris."
   
      Note: If you have never downloaded anything from this location you may
      be required to register with our site. The registration process will only 
      take a few minutes and is free. 

   
   
2. Copy the av32ap_sol.tar.z file into the $AVHOME directory.
3. Uncompress the file.

4. Extract the file.
   
   

   Code:
   %tar xvf av32ap_sol.tar

   
   
5. Check the date of the arcview.exe. If the installation was successful, it will be dated August 1st, 2000.
