HowTo: Add TIFF/LZW Read Support to ArcView GIS 3x

Summary

Some TIFF image files use the Lempel-Ziv-Welch (LZW) compression technology, which is patented by Unisys Corporation. The patent expired in all countries on July 7, 2004, and TIFF/LZW read capability is now freely available to ArcView GIS 3x users.

Procedure

After the avopt.dll file has been copied into the \arcview\bin32 directory, ArcView GIS will read LZW compressed images.

Download the TIFF/LZW read support DLL from the following location: Download TIFF_LZW.zip
Unzip the TIFF_LZW.zip file into a temporary location.
Copy avopt.dll into the \arcview\bin32 directory where ArcView is installed.
