Technical Article   Problem:  ArcMap closes when using geoprocessing wizard clip, intersect or union

Article ID: 21478
Bug Id: N/A
Software:  ArcGIS - ArcEditor 8.1 ArcGIS - ArcInfo 8.1 ArcGIS - ArcView 8.1
Platforms: N/A

Description

Executing clip, intersect, or union in the Geoprocessing wizard crashes ArcMap.

Cause

The amount of RAM and page file space exceed 2.1 gigabytes.

Solution or Workaround

  1. Have your system administrator identify the current amount of RAM being used on your machine.
  2. Subtract this value from 2.1 gigabytes. The difference is the maximum page file size you should use for all drives.
  3. Have your system administrator reset your page file size to the value calculated in Step 2.
