Technical Article   FAQ:  SQL Server: Why does ArcMap crash when opening the attribute table of a large feature class when all features are selected?

Article ID: 18292
Software:  ArcGIS - ArcInfo 8.1, 8.1.2 ArcSDE 8.1
Platforms:  Windows NT 4.0, 2000

Question

SQL Server: Why does ArcMap crash when opening the attribute table of a large feature class when all features are selected?

Answer

If you open the attribute table of a large feature class when all features are selected the gsrvr process may crash.

This occurs with SQL Server 7.0 feature classes with more than 500,000 features. The problem does not occur in SQL Server 2000.

As a workaround install MDAC 2.6 or use SQL Server 2000.
