ESRI Support Center Frequently Asked Questions

The following are questions we have received since we rolled out the new site. Please use the Give us feedback form if you don't see an answer to your question.

Q: Why do I have to log in to use this site?
A: You don't need to log in every time you use our site; most of the information is available without logging in. The Global Account allows you to set profiles, which are very useful when submitting a Problem or Bug Report to Technical Support. It also allows you set your search preferences and see bug articles. In the future we will add more features that rely on the log in and that are designed to enhance your support experience. Also, as other ESRI sites add log-in-based features, you will be able to easily access them and move around with one account.

Q: Why do I get "NO USER MATCH" when I try logging in after creating an account?
A: Make sure you validate your account by clicking the link in the confirmation E-mail you received after creating an account.

Q: Why can't I log in even though I have validated my account?
A: The login procedure uses cookies. Make sure your browser has cookies enabled.

Q: Why can't I find a Technical Article I had book marked on the old site?
A: Some articles are undergoing revision. Please use the Give us feedback form to tell us what article you are looking for and we will expedite its republishing.

Q: Why do I get a Page Not Found when I click a link in an article I just found?
A: See the previous question if the link points to another article. See the next question if the link points to another ESRI source.

Q: Why can't I open a PDF file?
A: Make sure you have Acrobat Reader 5.x. Also, make sure your browser and your OS have the latest service patches.

Q: Why can't I download a PDF file?
A: Don't try a right-click > "Save Target As" on the link (the link runs a JavaScript). Click the link to open the file and save it to disk from Acrobat Reader.

Q: Why can't I select a platform under System Requirements on Netscape 6.2?
A: Netscape 6.2 fails to read the initial product/version selection correctly. Reselect your product/version and then select a platform.

Q: Why do I get the homepage when I click a link that points to a developer's source?
A: We incorporated the contents of the old ArcOnline site into various sections of the Support Center. Please use the Advanced Search, or browse through the pages under the Software tab. If you can't find what you are looking for, use the Give us feedback form.

Q: Where are the E-mail Discussion Lists and how do I search for them?
A: The E-mail Discussion Lists archives are under the User Forums tab. The advanced search allows you to select the E-mail Discussion Lists though the results are displayed under User Forums.

Q: Why is the text too small to read in ArcScripts and Forums?
A: We have resolved this issue. In any case, should the text appear too small, change the Text Size setting in your browser (under the View menu) to Medium or 100%.

Q: Where do I find the Keycode Request Form?
A: That form is available on the Customer Service site.
