ArcGIS 9.3.1 (Server Java, Engine Java SDK) MXD Path Editor Patch

Date Submitted: May 15, 2009
Last Modified: May 22, 2009

Summary:

This patch adds support for path editing for Map Service Definition (MSD) files.

Description:

Introduction

ESRI® announces the ArcGIS 9.3.1 MXD Path Editor Patch. This patch includes support for path editing for Map Service Definition (MSD) files. We recommend that you download and install this patch at your earliest convenience to ensure the highest quality experience when working with ArcGIS 9.3.1.

ArcMap includes a toolbar and workflow for analyzing and publishing optimized map services using a Map Service Definition (MSD). Using ArcGIS Server, MSDs can be used to publish high performance ArcGIS map services. These optimized map services are new at ArcGIS Server Version 9.3.1 and can support both real-time, dynamic map services as well as cached map services. Refer to the online help to learn about Publishing optimized map services.

Issues Addressed with this Patch

Files Installed in this Patch

Windows:

Sun Solaris, SUSE Linux and Red Hat Linux (Intel):

Installing the Patch

Since this Patch replaces 9.3.1 files, you must have ArcGIS 9.3.1 installed before you can install this Patch. For the same reason, you shouldn't install it while anyone is using ArcGIS.

Installing this patch on Windows

  1. Before you start, make sure you have write access to the ArcGIS installation location folder.

  2. Open the Services Management Console > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Stop the ArcGIS Server Object Manager and ArcGIS Server Manager services.

  3. Double-click GIS931-EngSDKJava-MXD-Patch-Win.msp or GIS931-Server-MXD-Patch-Win.msp to start the install process.

  4. NOTE: If double clicking on the MSP file does not start the Patch installation, you can start the Patch installation manually by using the following command:

      msiexec.exe /p [location of Patch]\GIS931-<Product>-MXD-Patch-Win.msp
  5. When Setup starts, follow the instructions on your computer screen.

  6. Open the Services Management Console > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Start the ArcGIS Server Object Manager and ArcGIS Server Manager services.

Installing this patch on Sun Solaris, SUSE Linux and Red Hat Linux (Intel)

Run the following install steps as the ArcGISEngine or ArcGISServer Install owner, (NOT super user). The Install owner is the owner of the arcgis folder. For ArcGIS Server, make sure no one is using ArcGIS Server during the install.

  1. For ArcGIS Server, stop the ArcGIS server by typing:
    % arcgis/scripts/stopserver
  2. Extract the specified tar file by typing:
% tar -xvf gis931-server-mxd-patch-slrs.tar (Sun Solaris)
    % tar -xvf gis931-server-mxd-patch-linux.tar (Linux)
% tar -xvf gis931-engsdkjava-mxd-patch-slrs.tar (Sun Solaris)
    % tar -xvf gis931-engsdkjava-mxd-patch-linux.tar (Linux)
  3. Start the installation by typing:
    % ./applypatch
This will start the dialog for the menu-driven installation procedure. Default selections are noted in parentheses ( ). To quit the installation procedure, type 'q' at any time.

  4. For ArcGIS Server, start the ArcGIS Server by typing:

      % arcgis/scripts/startserver
