This Service Pack contains performance improvements and maintenance fixes. Please download and install this required Service Pack at your earliest convenience.
Some of the ArcGIS 9.3 Service Pack 1 setups have been replaced to address the following additional fix:
NOTE: If you've installed ArcGIS 9.3 Service Pack 1 prior to November 24, 2008, simply install ArcGIS 9.3 SP1 (Desktop, Engine, Server) Topology Validation Patch to fix this issue. You do not need to re-install ArcGIS 9.3 Service Pack 1.
NOTE: If you've already installed ArcGIS 9.3 Service Pack 1 and the ArcGIS 9.3 SP1 (Desktop, Engine, Server) Topology Validation Patch, you do not need to re-install Service Pack 1.
NOTE: To check for the presence of ArcGIS 9.3 SP1 (Desktop, Engine, Server) Topology Validation Patch or the updated 9.3 Service Pack 1 (9.3 SP1),
A DVD of this Service Pack will be made available in the next several weeks
for users who experience difficulties downloading the Service Pack from the
web site. Simply fill out the Request
a Service Pack DVD order form.
We recommend that all ArcGIS 9.3 customers download and install this Service Pack, at their earliest convenience, to ensure the highest quality experience when working with ArcGIS 9.3.
NOTE: If you are using a localized version of ArcGIS, please contact your local distributor to get the updated language supplement.
ArcGIS 9.3 Service Pack 1 contains critical fixes and new functionality. It is recommended that all users install this service pack.
A complete list of the issues that have been fixed in this service pack is available here.
It is important to keep all versions of ArcGIS products installed on
the same machine in sync to avoid any software conflicts.
To find out what products are currently installed on your machine, download
the PatchFinder93.exe utility
and run it from your local machine. This utility provides a report detailing
which ArcGIS products are currently installed on your machine. This will help
determine which product Service Packs you should install on your machine.
The report also details which service packs have been installed. The report
is displayed when the utility is run and a servicepack.txt log file is created
in your temp folder. The Service Pack Finder utility searches for the following
ArcGIS products.
ArcGIS ArcReader
ArcGIS Desktop (ArcView, ArcEditor, ArcInfo) Includes the ArcReader fixes for the ArcReader FEATURE.
ArcGIS Desktop Developer Kit for the Microsoft .NET Framework, VB6, VBA and Visual C++
ArcGIS Engine Developer Kit for C++, the Java Platform, the Microsoft .NET Framework, VB6 and Visual C++
ArcGIS Engine Runtime
ArcGIS Image Server
ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .NET Framework
ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform
ArcGIS Server Web ADF Runtime for the Microsoft .NET Framework
ArcIMS
ArcIMS Web ADF for the Microsoft .NET Framework
ArcIMS Web ADF for the Java Platform
ArcSDE
NOTE (ArcIMS and ArcSDE users): If you use ArcIMS 9.3 or ArcSDE 9.3, you must also install ArcIMS 9.3 Service Pack 1 or ArcSDE 9.3 Service Pack 1 . For example, if you use ArcIMS 9.3 and ArcGIS 9.3 Desktop, install both ArcIMS 9.3 Service Pack 1 and ArcGIS 9.3 Desktop Service Pack 1. Since ArcIMS 9.3, ArcSDE 9.3 and the ArcGIS 9.3 products share common DLLs, it is important to keep the software release versions in sync to avoid any software conflicts.
NOTE (ArcGIS Desktop 9.3 users): The ArcGIS Desktop Help updates setup (ArcGISDesktopHelp93sp1.msp) includes updates for ArcGIS 9.3 Desktop Documentation, including Help files, core extension Help files, and tutorials. The ArcGIS Desktop setup (ArcGISDesktop93sp1.msp) must be applied before the ArcGIS Desktop Help update.
NOTE (ArcGIS Desktop 9.3 Evaluation Edition users): This Service Pack is supported with the ArcGIS Desktop 9.3 Evaluation Edition.
NOTE (Windows 2003 Server users): See Technical Article 33818 if you encounter Error 1718. File was rejected by digital signature policy.
NOTE (ArcGIS Server Post Install for ArcGIS Server users): The ArcGIS Server Post Install will automatically launch after the service pack has been applied. If this doesn't happen, please be sure to launch the GIS Server Post Install and Web Applications Post Install (if ArcGIS Server .NET is installed) manually from the shortcuts found in your Start menu. The GIS Server Post Install will prompt for the ArcGIS Server Object Manager (SOM), ArcGIS Server Object Container (SOC), the GIS Server Manager (on ArcGIS Server Java) and the GIS Server Webservices (on ArcGIS Server .NET) user accounts and their associated passwords. To avoid disrupting the operation of your server installation you will need to use the exact same accounts and passwords that you used when you initially installed ArcGIS Server (or the last time you ran the Post Install). If you don't remember which ones you used you can have the Post Install create new ones for you, but you will need to update the permissions on your data and non-default output server directories to grant access to the new ArcGIS Server Object Container (SOC) account. Additionally, if you previously had large caches associated with cached Map or Globe services it may take a very long time for the Server Post Install to alter the permissions on the large number of files in your caches (see Technical Article 32766 for a suggested workaround). For help on getting started after installing ArcGIS Server, refer to the Administering the server--> Getting started after install topic in ArcGIS Server Help.
NOTE (ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .Net Framework users): The ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .Net Framework setup has a Service Pack 1 setup named ArcGISServerDotNet93sp1.msp.
The 9.3 release also includes a setup for the Web Application Developer Framework (ADF) Runtime. This Runtime installation
is installed on production machines where you plan to deploy Web Mapping Applications built with the Manager or the Web
ADF. The ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .Net Framework Web ADF Runtime setup has a Service Pack 1 setup named
ArcGISServerWebADFRuntime93sp1.msp. You would only need to run the ArcGISServerWebADFRuntime93sp1.msp if you had run the
separate Web ADF Runtime install when you installed 9.3 Final.
A machine that has the ArcGISServerDotNet93sp1.msp installed would not require an installation of the
ArcGISServerWebADFRuntime93sp1.msp.
ArcGIS 9.3 must be installed before you can install this Service Pack. This Service Pack is cumulative and contains the fixes from all previous 9.3 patches. If you have a previous patch installed, you may apply this Service Pack over it to update the required files.
