Introduction

ESRI® announces the ArcGIS Desktop 9.1 Map Document Interaction Performance Patch. This Patch solves a performance issue that occurs when interacting with maps while the Effects toolbar is open. It deals specifically with the issue listed below under Issues Addressed with this Patch.

We recommend that all ArcGIS Desktop 9.1 who use the effects toolbar and are seeing performance problems, download and install this Patch at their earliest convenience to ensure the highest quality experience when working with ArcGIS Desktop 9.1.

Issues Addressed with this Patch

CQ00275783 - The swipe tool should not reset the cache each time the contents of the map are updated.

The main issue is:


• The swipe tool resets the caches each time the document contents are changed. This causes a performance slowdown because an extra caching procedure is executed for every document update.
  
  This patch resolves the performance issue by only updating the cache when the swipe tool is clicked for use.

Installing the Patch

ArcGIS Desktop 9.1 must be installed before you can install this Patch.

1. Make sure you have write access to your ArcGIS Desktop installation location, and that no one is using ArcGIS Desktop.



2. Download ArcGIS-91-MapDoc-Patch.exe to a location other than your ArcGIS Desktop installation location.
   
   
3. Double-click the setup file to start the install process.



4. When Setup starts, follow the instructions on your screen.

NOTE: If you have installed client setups from a shared Network Administrative ArcGIS Desktop setup, this Patch must be applied to all client installations.

How to identify which Patch is installed

To check for the presence of a Patch, for each file examine the unique identification information provided (right click, properties, version tab, item name, QFE Version).
