This Service Pack contains performance improvements and maintenance fixes. Please download and install this required Service Pack at your earliest convenience. This service pack includes ArcGIS Survey Analyst 9.2 with Cadastral Editor for those who are licensed to use the Survey Analyst Extension.
A CD of this Service Pack will be made available in the next several weeks
for users who experience difficulties downloading the Service Pack from the
web site. Simply fill out the Request
a Service Pack CD order form.
We recommend that all ArcGIS 9.2 customers download and install this Service Pack, at their earliest convenience, to ensure the highest quality experience when working with ArcGIS 9.2.
NOTE: If you are using a localized version of ArcGIS, please contact your local distributor to get the updated language supplement.
ArcGIS 9.2 SP3 contains critical fixes and new functionality. It is recommended that all users install this service pack.
A complete list of the issues that have been fixed in this service pack is available here.
An overview of the main enhancements that have been made in the 9.2 Service Packs is available here.
These enhancements include new tools and functionality, including the new ArcGIS Survey Analyst 9.2 with Cadastral Editor.
It is important to keep all versions of ArcGIS products installed on
the same machine in sync to avoid any software conflicts.
To find out what products are currently installed on your machine, download
the ServicePackFinder92.exe utility
and run it from your local machine. This utility provides a report detailing
which ArcGIS products are currently installed on your machine. This will help
determine which product Service Packs you should install on your machine.
The report also details which service packs have been installed. The report
is displayed when the utility is run and a servicepack.txt log file is created
in your temp folder. The Service Pack Finder utility searches for the following
ArcGIS products.
ArcGIS ArcReader
ArcGIS Desktop (ArcView, ArcEditor, ArcInfo) Includes the ArcReader fixes for the ArcReader FEATURE.
ArcGIS Desktop Developer Kit for the Microsoft .NET Framework, VB6, VBA and Visual C++
ArcGIS Engine Developer Kit for C++, the Java Platform, the Microsoft .NET Framework, VB6 and Visual C++
ArcGIS Engine Runtime
ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .NET Framework
ArcGIS Server for the Java Platform
ArcGIS Server Web ADF Runtime for the Microsoft .NET Framework
ArcIMS
ArcIMS Web ADF for the Microsoft .NET Framework
ArcIMS Web ADF for the Java Platform
ArcSDE
NOTE (ArcIMS and ArcSDE users): If you use ArcIMS 9.2 or ArcSDE 9.2, you must also install ArcIMS 9.2 Service Pack 3 or ArcSDE 9.2 Service Pack 3 . For example, if you use ArcIMS 9.2 and ArcGIS 9.2 Desktop, install both ArcIMS 9.2 Service Pack 3 and ArcGIS 9.2 Desktop Service Pack 3. Since ArcIMS 9.2, ArcSDE 9.2 and the ArcGIS 9.2 products share common DLLs, it is important to keep the software release versions in sync to avoid any software conflicts.
NOTE (ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 users): The ArcGIS Desktop Help updates setup (ArcGISDesktopHelp92sp3.msp) includes updates for ArcGIS 9.2 Desktop Documentation, including Help files, core extension Help files, geoprocessing tool Help files, tutorials, tutorial videos, and an updated "What's new in ArcGIS 9.2?" pdf. The ArcGIS Desktop setup (ArcGISDesktop92sp3.msp) must be applied before the ArcGIS Desktop Help update.
NOTE (ArcView 9.2 Evaluation Edition users): This Service Pack is supported with the ArcView 9.2 Evaluation Edition.
NOTE (ArcGIS Server): The ArcGIS Server Post Install will automatically launch after the service pack has been applied. The Post Install will prompt for the ArcGIS Server Object Manager (SOM), ArcGIS Server Object Container (SOC) and the ArcGIS Server Web Services user accounts and their associated passwords. To avoid disrupting the operation of your server installation you will need to use the exact same accounts and passwords that you used when you initially installed ArcGIS Server (or the last time you ran the Post Install). If you don't remember which ones you used you can have the Post Install create new ones for you, but you will need to update the permissions on your data and non-default output server directories to grant access to the new ArcGIS Server Object Container (SOC) account. Additionally, if you previously had large caches associated with cached Map or Globe services it may take a very long time for the Server Post Install to alter the permissions on the large number of files in your caches (see http://support.esri.com/index.cfm?fa=knowledgebase.techarticles.articleShow&d=32766 for a suggested workaround). For help on getting started after installing ArcGIS Server, refer to the Administering the server--> Getting started after install topic in ArcGIS Server Help. You can access the ArcGIS Server Help online at http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisserver/9.2.
NOTE: If you are using ArcSDE data sources, you must apply the ArcSDE 9.2 SP 3 client install for your particular platform. Since the ArcGIS 9.2 products share common DLLs, it is important to keep the software release versions in sync to avoid any software conflicts.
NOTE (ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .Net Framework users):
The ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .Net Framework setup has a Service Pack 3 setup named ArcGISServerDotNet92sp3.msp.
The 9.2 release also includes a setup for the Web Application Developer Framework (ADF) Runtime. This Runtime installation is installed on production machines where you plan to deploy Web Mapping Applications built with the Manager or the Web ADF. The ArcGIS Server for the Microsoft .Net Framework Web ADF Runtime setup has a Service Pack 3 setup named ArcGISServerWebADFRuntime92sp3.msp.
ArcGIS 9.2 must be installed before you can install this Service Pack. This Service Pack is cumulative and contains the fixes from all previous 9.2 patches and service packs. If you have a previous patch or service pack installed, you may apply this Service Pack over it to update the required files.

NOTE: If you have installed client setups from a shared Network Administrative
ArcGIS Desktop setup, this Service Pack must be applied to all client installations.
NOTE: You will not be able to install this Service Pack directly from
any removable media, you must copy the Service Pack Install file (MSP) locally
or to a location on your network prior to installing the Service Pack.
System Administrators note:
A technical paper is available to provide information on deploying ArcGIS
and Service Packs. This white paper discusses the deployment of ArcGIS 9.2
setups and Service Packs using Microsoft® Systems Management Server (SMS)
and Group Policy, including additional system requirements, suggestions, known
issues, and Microsoft Software Installation (MSI) command line parameters.
Deployment in a lockdown environment is also covered.

NOTE (ArcGIS Server): For help on getting started after installing ArcGIS Server, refer to the Administering the server--> Getting started after install topic in ArcGIS Server Help. You can access the ArcGIS Server Help online at http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisserver/9.2.
NOTE (ArcGIS Server SOC-only installations): Before installing this service pack, please see support knowledge base document 33800 for specific installation instructions.
NOTE: If you are using ArcSDE data sources, you must apply the ArcSDE 9.2 SP 3 client install for your particular platform. Since the ArcGIS 9.2 products share common files, it is important to keep the software release versions in sync to avoid any software conflicts.
NOTE: This service pack should be installed as the ArcGIS Server owner, i.e. the user owning the installation.
