This Service Pack contains performance improvements and maintenance fixes. Please download and install this required Service Pack at your earliest convenience.

Description:

Important Note

A CD of this Service Pack will be made available in the next several weeks for users who experience difficulties downloading the Service Pack from the web site. Simply fill out the Request a Service Pack CD order form.

Introduction

We recommend that all ArcGIS 9.2 customers download and install this Service Pack, at their earliest convenience, to ensure the highest quality experience when working with ArcGIS 9.2.

NOTE: If you are using a localized version of ArcGIS, please contact your local distributor to get the updated language supplement.

    To Install:


    1. Make sure you have write access to your ArcGIS installation location, and that no one is accessing it.


    2. Download the appropriate files to a location other than the installation folder:

    3. (Server for .Net Installation Only) From your Services control panel, stop the ArcGIS Server Object Manager.

    4. (Server for Java Installation Only) From your Services control panel, stop the ArcGIS Server Manager Service and the ArcGIS Server Object Manager.

    5. Double-click the msp files to start the install process.

      NOTE: If double clicking on the MSP file does not start the Service Pack installation, you can start the Service Pack installation manually by using the following command:

        msiexec.exe /p [location of service pack]\<Product>92sp2.msp
    6. When Setup starts, follow the instructions on your screen.

    7. Repeat steps 2 - 6 for each product installed on your machine.


    NOTE: If you have installed client setups from a shared Network Administrative ArcGIS Desktop setup, this Service Pack must be applied to all client installations.

    NOTE: You will not be able to install this Service Pack directly from any removable media, you must copy the Service Pack Install file (MSP) locally or to a location on your network prior to installing the Service Pack.

    System Administrators note:
    A technical paper is available to provide information on deploying ArcGIS and Service Packs. This white paper discusses the deployment of ArcGIS 9.2 setups and Service Packs using Microsoft® Systems Management Server (SMS) and Group Policy, including additional system requirements, suggestions, known issues, and Microsoft Software Installation (MSI) command line parameters.     3. (Server Only) Stop your server.

        % arcgis/scripts/stopserver
    4. Extract the specified tar file by typing:

        % tar -xvf gis92-sp2-<engine/reader/server>-slrs.tar (Sun Solaris)
        % tar xvf gis92-sp2-<engine/reader/server>-linux.tar (Linux)
    5. (IBM-AIX Only) You must remove any inactive libraries that are loaded into memory before proceeding to the next step. Not doing so will result in an installation error. To remove them, as ROOT user, type:

        # /usr/sbin/slibclean
    6. Start the installation by typing:

        % ./applypatch

      This will start the dialog for the menu-driven installation procedure. Default selections are noted in parentheses ( ). To quit the installation procedure, type 'q' at any time.

    7. ArcGIS Engine and ArcReader, type:

        % setenv DISPLAY your_display:0
        % source arcgis/init_engine.csh
        % regsvr32 -c -u arcgis/bin/mapserver.dll
        % regsvr32 -c arcgis/bin/mapserver.dll

    8. ArcGIS Server, type:

        % setenv DISPLAY your_display:0
        % source arcgis/servercore/.Server/init_server.csh
        % mwadm start
        % regsvr32 -c -u arcgis/bin/mapserver.dll
        % regsvr32 -c arcgis/bin/mapserver.dll
        % mwadm stop

        Open a new terminal, type:

        % setenv DISPLAY your_display:0 (if it isn't already)
        % arcgis/scripts/startserver (in the new terminal)
