Data Model User Group

Join the data model user group if you are an existing ArcGIS customer and want to learn more about design and architecture of personal or enterprise Geodatabase and become a part of ESRI’s growing data model community.

We invite user group members to participate in a series of instructional web casts. Please fill out the data model survey to give us feedback on what web casts you would like to see.

Organizations representing the fire and emergency services (ESF 4) have initiated a project to develop a national GIS data model to support regular and disaster-related operations at the local level. This effort will complement and extend existing national geospatial data models. The leadership team for the project includes representatives from the Metropolitan Fire Chief and Volunteer Fire Sections of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), The National Association of State Fire Marshals, The National Alliance for Public Safety GIS (NA-PSG), and GIS specialists from the public and private sectors. The US DOT Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) is providing leadership and project support.

The purpose of this project is to develop a national model for managing geospatial data related to fire operations at the local level. The initial phase of the project will focus on incident data with an emphasis on hazmat reporting. An initial draft model is available for early adopters on this site, but it will take us some time to implement a number of real projects and refine the data model before it is mature.

Downloads - Design Templates

The Design Templates are the result of the community-based design process. The general concepts and terms for this discipline are described here. Tools and examples to create a template data model are also included for advanced users.

User Community

We are actively looking to partner with Fire Service organizations and related standards teams.

For more information on the project and to learn how you can participate, go to National Alliance for Public Safety GIS.

You can also contact Jennifer Schottke for more information on the Fire Service Data Model.
