The Health Data Model (HMD) was a collaborative project to develop a generic data model for health applications using ArcGIS. Researchers at University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) in collaboration with ESRI staff led this consortium in 2003. The group, headed by Dr. Michael Goodchild, included public health planning and research organizations, public health consulting firms, and GIS coordinators from medical centers around the country. A number of private health consultants, ESRI Business Partners, software developers, and university faculty were also involved in this project. This work assigned top priority to issues related to service site selection, facility emergency response, campus facility management, regional environmental health, and disease surveillance.
ESRI’s Health and Human Services team is interested in feedback from the Health GIS User Community regarding use of and interest in health data models. Please contact Jennifer Schneider-Camp should you have any comments or questions. We appreciate your feedback!
