The purpose behind this design is to provide a simple starting point for new users, as well as a Geodatabase design based on best practices for more mature GIS programs. The model includes typical Local Government datasets in a simple data model. You can also include content from other data model templates to extend your data model for specific organizational needs/applications.
The focal point for this template was the City of Loveland, CO – a mature GIS shop in the process of moving to the Geodatabase. Special thanks also goes out to Boone County, Ky, and Clayton County, GA where the GIS teams provided great working examples and feedback on the design.
There is an implicit connection to State and National data sharing goals. Additional content can be found in the GIS for the Nation data model – especially for emergency operations/management. People working on Regional and State systems should consider the GIS for the Nation model as a way to aggregate information from local data partners.
More information on the Loveland program can be found at the City of Loveland, Colorado Website.
Another great example is the Oakland County, Michigan Website.
A prototype of the Ontario, Canada Municipal Model can be found on the ESRI Canada Website.
