The purpose of the ArcGIS Address Data Model is to provide a framework for building databases that contain address information. This data model accommodates many of the complexities of addresses and their relationships to objects that previous GIS models have not. It provides a foundation for databases in which addresses are created, edited, and validated, but it is not necessarily optimized for applications that use address information, such as geocoding.
A number of local government agencies have implemented data models after a Calgary case study was developed. These designs require less application development and are easier to work with. For most cities and counties, however, the business of managing streets and addresses efficiently makes a simple approach a more practical solution. You can now download a copy of the Simple Design Template and consider this along with the Calgary example to determine which model will meet your needs.
There is an Address Management Discussion Forum where you can discuss data model designs and tools for address management applications.
For a simple publication model, rather than a data maintenance model, please refer to theGIS for the Nation data model.
