Data Model User Group

Join the data model user group if you are an existing ArcGIS customer and want to learn more about design and architecture of personal or enterprise Geodatabase and become a part of ESRI’s growing data model community.

We invite user group members to participate in a series of instructional web casts. Please fill out the data model survey to give us feedback on what web casts you would like to see.

S-57 is the electronic data transfer standard prepared by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) committee. The geodatabase model allows the user to import Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC) .000 files, which in turn provides the user with a highly accurate vector data set that is ideal as foundation data. Enabling added value to the .000 ENC files within a non-navigational environment. A generic nautical style sheet is also available for download. Please note that the symbology provided in the nautical style set does not correspond to S-52, it uses other navigation-oriented symbology.

The ESRI S-57 .000 ENC output file is not for use in marine navigation under any circumstances. Find information about the S57 data format under the ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display Information System) section. To find out more information about implementing with the S-57 model please visit the PLTS Nautical Solution website.

The NOAA Coastal Services Center created a tool for the automatic symbolizing of S-57 data. To get this tool visit the ENC Data Handler extension for ArcView 3.x and ArcGIS

Downloads - Case Studies

These Case Studies are a good starting point to learn about best practices for this discipline. These project examples include sample geodatabases, map documents, and documentation.

Downloads - Design Templates

The Design Templates are the result of the community-based design process. The general concepts and terms for this discipline are described here. Tools and examples to create a template data model are also included for advanced users.
