Save an ArcMap map document to a CD preserving the paths to the data

Procedure



  1. Create a new folder on the hard drive.
  2. Save the map document to the new folder.
  3. Copy all data into the new folder using ArcCatalog. The data can be in a subfolder under the same folder that contains the map document. For example:

    C:\CD\MyMap.mxd
    C:\CD\Data\myshape.shp

  4. Reset the path for each layer in ArcMap map document to the new copy of the data.

    Follow the steps below.

    1. Right-click the layer in the ArcMap Table of Contents and select Properties
    2. Switch to the Source tab.
    3. Click the 'Set Data Source' button.
    4. Navigate to the location of the new data set, select it, and click the Add button.
    5. Click the Apply and OK buttons on the Layer Properties dialog box.

  5. Select Map Properties from the File menu.
  6. Click the Data Source Options button.
  7. Click the 'Store relative path names' radio button and click OK.
  8. Click OK on the Map Properties dialog box.
  9. Save the changes to the map document.
  10. Copy to the CD the folder created in step 1.
