Last Published: December 28, 2023

Resumen

The instructions provided describe how to create a spatial ETL (extract, transform, and load) tool template when creating custom ETL tools with the ArcGIS Data Interoperability extension. This process is useful when it is necessary to open the Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) Workbench application and bypass the Create Translation Workspace Wizard.

Procedimiento

  1. Launch ArcMap from the Start menu.
Note:
This procedure requires installing and authorizing the ArcGIS Data Interoperability extension. To do this in ArcMap, click Customize > Extensions, and check the Data Interoperability check box.
  1. In the Catalog window, create a new toolbox. To create a toolbox, use the instructions provided in the following Help document, Creating a toolbox.
  2. Right-click the new toolbox, and select New > Spatial ETL Tool. The Create Translation Workspace Wizard opens.
  3. Specify the source data format as NULL (Nothing), and click Next.
  4. For the source data location, use the default option, <Unused>, and click Next.
  5. Specify the destination data format as NULL (Nothing), and click Next.
  6. Click Finish. The FME Workbench application for the ArcGIS Data Interoperability extension opens.
  7. In the Navigator window of the FME Workbench application:
    1. Right-click the NULL reader, and select Delete Reader.
    2. Right-click the NULL writer, and select Delete Writer.
  8. To save the tool, click the File menu, and select Save.
  9. Close the FME Workbench application.
  10. In the Catalog window, right-click the spatial ETL tool, select Rename, and rename the tool with a name such as ETL_Template.

In the future, use the following steps to open the FME Workbench application:

  1. Copy and paste the spatial ETL tool to a toolbox.
  2. Right-click the copied tool.
  3. Select Edit to open the FME Workbench application.

Once the Workbench application is open, 'readers' or 'writers' may be inserted and tools may be manipulated as necessary.
