Best Practices: Georeferencing ArcIMS Services

When you create ArcIMS services, you should include georeferencing information in your map configuration files. This information is critical if you expect users to integrate your services with their own data. As an example, an ArcGIS Desktop user may want to add your service as a data layer. If your service has an undefined spatial reference, it will probably not integrate correctly with other data layers.

If you have never added projection elements to your map configuration file, or you do not fully understand how these elements work, an excellent place to start is to review Georeferencing ArcIMS Services in the January-March 2005 issue of ArcUser.
