ArcGIS software downloaded from the Customer Care Portal is in .iso file format, and must be extracted with an ISO image extractor program such as ISOBuster or 7-Zip. The files can then be shared with other colleagues in an organization that need to install ArcGIS software.
An ISO file, often called an ISO Image, is in fact an 'image' of an entire DVD. The ISO image file can be used directly from a hard drive as a virtual disk by using either an ISO image file extractor program to extract the files (e.g., 7-Zip, IsoBuster), or by using an ISO mounter program (e.g., Virtual CloneDrive). In addition, it is possible to create a backup copy of the software on physical media by using a DVD authoring program and DVD burner to burn the ISO image on DVD.
ArcGIS software can be downloaded from the Esri Customer Care Portal by logging in with an Esri Global ID.
The non-US version of the deployment training seminar, ArcGIS 10 Deployment: Download, Installation, and Authorization (Non-US), is now live.
