Install Business Analyst 2015 data to a non-standard drive

Summary

This technical article provides instructions for installing Business Analyst Desktop data to a drive other than the C: drive.

In this scenario, the base Business Analyst Desktop software is installed to the C: drive, while the Business Analyst Data update is installed on the D: drive.

Procedure

Before installing the data, verify that the destination drive has approximately 40 GB of space free.

The following instructions assume that the following programs have already been installed:

• ArcGIS for Desktop
• ArcGIS for Desktop Background Geoprocessing (64-bit)
• Esri Business Analyst for Desktop
• Esri Business Analyst for Desktop Background Geoprocessing (64-bit)

1. Download the three Business Analyst 2015 data files from My Esri:
   • Esri Business Analyst 2015 Data
     (ESRI_BA_2015_US_DATA_Update.7z.001)
   • Esri Business Analyst 2015 Data
     (ESRI_BA_2015_US_DATA_Update.7z.002)
   • Esri Business Analyst 2015 Data
     (ESRI_BA_2015_US_DATA_Update.7z.003)
2. Once downloaded, right-click ESRI_BA_2015_US_DATA_Update.7z.001 and use a file extractor, such as 7-Zip, to extract the data from the folder (select Extract Here if 7-Zip is already installed). The process to extract these files takes approximately 15 minutes. This process automatically extracts and reassembles all three data files to create a full 2015 Data Update Setup. 

   Note:
   Do not attempt to extract files 002 or 003.

3. Run setup.exe. Once finished, there is a subfolder named ESRI_BA_2015_US_DATA_UPDATE which contains another setup.exe file.
   
   
    
4. Open the newly-created ESRI_BA_2015_US_DATA_UPDATE folder and double-click setup.exe. When prompted to select either a Typical Data Install or a Custom Install, select the Custom Install option.
5. Click on Change... and set where the data is to be installed. If the ZIP4 Geocoding Data is selected, this requires an additional 640 MB of hard drive space.
   
   
    
6. At the completion of the process, the installation prompts to activate a data license. This must be done on the same machine where Business Analyst Desktop is installed. Path out to and open this file.
7. Open Business Analyst 2015 from Start > All Programs > ArcGIS > Business Analyst.
8. Once open, click the Business Analyst toolbar > Preferences. On the Dataset tab, ensure all data paths are correct.
