Frequently asked question

Can users verify the number of records for a feature service in ArcGIS Online?

Last Published: April 26, 2020

Answer

Users can see a full record set via the Show Table option when a service is used in a web map. Refer to the following ArcGIS Online Help page, Show tables, for more details. 'Show table' is equivalent to an attribute table in ArcMap, to see the records and also numbers as well. It can be used to verify the number of records in the ArcGIS Online map viewer.

However, there is another way to verify the record count of the service by going to the URL for the services. To do this, follow the steps below:

1. In the Contents pane, point to the desired layer. Click the More Options button and select Show Item Details.

2. In the Item Details page, click the drop-down next to the layer name under 'Layers', and select Service URL.

3. Scroll down to the bottom page and click Query, and the HTML dialog box comes up. In the 'Where:' field, type '1=1' and click the 'Query (GET)' button at the bottom.

Below the HTML dialog box, there is '# results: x'. This shows the number of records. For example, '# results: 5'. This shows that there are 5 records for the feature service.
