FAQ: Does the ArcGIS platform support the SAP HANA database?
Does the ArcGIS platform support the SAP HANA database?
Yes, support for SAP HANA was added for the ArcGIS Platform for database access and publishing data via map/feature services. Database access allows ArcGIS clients to establish a database connection to SAP HANA after the SAP HANA client ODBC driver is installed and configured. This connection can be used to view/query spatial data from SAP HANA databases and perform analysis. This data can then be shared using services for viewing and/or editing.
A summary of the SAP HANA functionality added for specific releases of ArcGIS is as follows:
ArcGIS 10.3 - Database access and publishing via map services
ArcGIS 10.3.1 - Added feature service support
ArcGIS Pro 1.2 - Database access and publishing via map/feature services
Refer to the core ArcGIS documentation in the Related Information section for more information on database access and publishing from SAP HANA databases.
Geodatabase Support for SAP HANA: The collaboration between SAP and Esri provides the ability to use both GIS workflows and advanced spatial analytics within a single SAP HANA database. The ArcGIS Pro 2.1 release will support SAP HANA as an enterprise geodatabase. SAP HANA geodatabases will support advanced platform capabilities with the newer service-based editing model.
After enabling as a geodatabase, users are able to use enterprise geodatabase functionality and advanced platform capabilities such as:
offline editing with sync capabilities
new service based long transaction model for editing
These advanced platform capabilities for SAP HANA will be available for ArcGIS Pro 2.1 and ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6. Some ArcGIS platform capabilities such as topology, parcel fabric and network datasets will not be available with the initial Pro 2.1 release for the SAP HANA geodatabase. As these capabilities take advantage of a new service-based long transaction model in future releases, they will be made available for SAP HANA. The primary focus of the initial enterprise geodatabase release for SAP HANA is utility management. Non-utility customers that are interested in the enterprise geodatabase support for SAP HANA should discuss their core workflows with their Esri account manager or international distributor.
Support for SAP HANA databases using ArcMap/Catalog clients is limited to database access. Once the SAP HANA database is enabled as a geodatabase, making database connections will not be available for ArcMap/Catalog clients.
According to the Supported Environment Policy, an environment is supported when the environment meets or exceeds the base build environment and is known to not fail. Environments that are known to not work are usually documented on the product support page as soon as information is available.
