PROBLEM

Globe Services crash on RHEL 6 Update 4

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

Occasionally, Globe Services crash on RHEL 6.4. When this occurs, the service crashes repeatedly and generates ldmps files in the following location:

<ArcGIS Server Installation Directory>/usr/logs/<Fully Qualified Domain Name>/errorreports

Cause

With Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4, the GLX extension is disabled in the Xvfb package (the X virtual frame buffer), and the rendering of the headless 3D applications fails to function.

Since Xvfb is required for ArcGIS Server on RHEL 6.x systems, this means that using the Xvfb as-is causes Globe Services to not work as expected.

Solution or Workaround

Log in to the Red Hat Customer Portal and request the xorg-x11-server patch if using ArcGIS for Server on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4.

This problem does not affect other RHEL 6.x systems.
