HOW TO

View FME Workspace documents with the ArcGIS Data Interoperability extension

Last Published: December 28, 2023

Summary

The instructions provided describe how to view FME Workspace files (.fmw) with the ArcGIS Data Interoperability extension in ArcMap. This is useful when viewing examples provided by FME for particular procedures. However, the ArcGIS Data Interoperability extension does not support the full functionality of FME Desktop or FME Server. This process is designed for viewing examples, tutorials, or previously created .fmw files from the ArcGIS Data Interoperability extension platform.

Procedure

  1. Launch ArcMap from the Start menu.
Note:
This procedure requires installing and authorizing the ArcGIS Data Interoperability extension. To do this in ArcMap, click Customize > Extensions, and check the Data Interoperability checkbox.
  1. Create a spatial ETL tool template to open the .fmw files. Use the steps provided in the following article to create a spatial ETL tool template: How To: Create a spatial ETL tool template with the ArcGIS Data Interoperability extension.
  2. Right-click the ETL_Template. Copy and Paste the ETL_Template in the same toolbox or in a new toolbox.
  3. Right-click the copied ETL_Template, and click Edit. The FME Workbench application for the ArcGIS Data Interoperability extension opens.
  4. Once the FME Workbench application is open, drag and drop the .fmw files from Windows Explorer to the FME Workbench application.

The FME Workspace and .fmw documents are now visible.
